Date/Time: October 28, 2025 at 6 pm
Location: Zoom
CE Credit: 1 Learning CE for Behavior Analysts

Description:
Successfully engaging with families in helping professions such as Social Work and Behavior Analysis requires balancing empathy with professional boundaries. Practitioners must remain compassionate while protecting themselves from secondary trauma and compassion fatigue. But where is the line between practicing empathy and maintaining professionalism across multiple systems of care?
This session will explore compassion fatigue through the perspectives of both social work and behavior analysis, highlight the importance of ethical boundaries, and provide practical self-care strategies. Following the presentation, a panel discussion will offer real-world applications to help professionals sustain integrity and well-being while supporting families.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define compassion fatigue.
- Explain why self-care is critical in helping professions.
- Compare perspectives from social work and behavior analysis on compassion fatigue.
- Apply relevant ethical guidelines (1.10 Awareness of Personal Biases and Challenges; 1.15 Responding to Requests) to managing their own competencies.
